English-Spanish Glossary of Technical Terms Used in Ecology, Evolution, and Systematics, with Emphasis in Ornithology

Maintained by Roberto J. CáceresC. Daniel Cadena, Lucio R. Malizia, and Cintia Cornelius

The English scientific literature is full of technical terms that in many cases do not have equivalent, standard terms in Spanish. Because finding accurate terms while translating texts for ornithological journals (this explains the avian bias) has been often difficult for us, during the past few years we have been building this glossary, which represents our ongoing attempt at standardizing Spanish translations for technical terms used in the English biological literature. This was intended initially for our personal use in translating texts consistently, but we are now hoping to make it a more general and useful resource.

Owing to the history of this website, the inclusion of terms has been somewhat haphazard, but we hope to add words in a more systematic fashion in the future as time allows.

The glossary is intended to provide translations of terms but not definitions. If you have any comments, criticisms, or suggestions (particularly about words you would like to see added to the glossary), please contact us. If you would be interested in contributing directly to the development of this wiki site, please read the instructions for contributors, then drop us a line and we will set you up. People that have contributed so far, or have registered to do so, are listed here.
